“It could be a scene out of Close Encounters of the Third Kind but these strange columns of light are a natural phenomenom caused by ice crystals reflecting bright lighting on the ground. The images were taken by photographer Mike Hollingshead in Nebraska last week when temperatures plunged to minus 18 degrees Celsius.”
